The high rate of foreclosures in Patterson has led city staff to draft new rules that could fine lenders $1,000 a day if they leave their properties in disarray.

Under the new rules, lenders would be responsible for properties once they become vacant. They would have to register with the county and post contact information on the house for the property manager.

A report to the council states that the new rules are an attempt to deter crime, maintain property values, and prevent fire and disease.

This proposal was put before the city staff in January

The beutification committee placed this before the city staff in January of this year. It was moved by Vivian Ratliff and modeled after an ordinance in Manteca, but has taken the current administration almost 10 months to put it up for a vote. Thank you on moving it forward, but why wait so long? Haven't said it until now, but it smells of politics or maybe its just the trash in the house that hasn't been cleaned.

The offending Realtors are probably from out of town. Maybe they never even inspected the property. I would love to see the City protect the local Realtos by fining the out of towners.
