Industrial center seeks city approval Print E-mail

At a glance
WHAT: City Council meeting
WHEN: 7 p.m. Tuesday
WHERE: Council chambers, City Hall, 1 Plaza Circle

A 121-acre industrial center slated for western Patterson will seek approval from the Patterson City Council on Tuesday.

Applicants Westside Property Management and F. & D. Schali have proposed turning mostly vacant land close to the corner of Sperry Avenue and Baldwin Road into 34 buildings that would cater to a variety of industrial tenants.

If the project comes to fruition, it would provide about 1.3 million square feet of industrial land in buildings ranging from 13,500 to 75,000 square feet.

The project would be adjacent to Keystone Pacific Business Park, another large industrial center in western Patterson. That project houses two massive distribution centers, and another giant building is under construction.

The project is part of the West Patterson Business Park Master Plan, which lays the groundwork for industrial development west of Baldwin Avenue on the north and south side of Sperry Avenue. Because the project is in the plan area, much of the environmental work has already been completed, including traffic and air quality impacts.

The council also will review conceptual plans for a Modesto Junior College site in Patterson. The Yosemite Community College District and a local property owner recently came to an agreement to donate land south of the T.W. Patterson Sports Park for the purpose of constructing a satellite campus. The council will review the district’s early plans and decide if the city will assist in seeking funding for the project.

Will the developer of the 34 new buildings be asked to help foot the bill for our schools as part of a deal to be allowed to develop this area? Our does the city just think its better to raise everyones taxes? Since the city can get developers to help pay for a half million dollar skate park I would think the city council would consider schools, water treatment facility, safer roads, or perhaps even our own city police force to get drunk drivers off the roads and do dui check points more then once every 10 years, as important as skating. Not that I have anything against skating, its just mind boggeling to see money being spent on things like that when people are dying on a much to regular ba*sis around here on our roads and with the schools being in need of so much work.
