Are you in the mood for a Burrito Supreme? Soon, you won’t have to go out of town to get one. A Taco Bell is expected to open by the end of October on Sperry Avenue next to Longs Drugs. Earthmovers started pushing dirt July 30 to raise the 2,550-square-foot building, which will seat 70 people. ![]() North of the Border: Work continues on the new Taco Bell, which should open in October in the new Longs Drugs shopping center on Sperry Avenue. Dave Olson, who owns 37 Taco Bell franchises from Stockton to Fresno, said he and his partners were looking at Patterson four years ago. “I did not want to go out by the freeway,” Olson said. “I want to be a part of the community. When you’re in town, you’re part of the community. Patterson has almost 22,000 people — that’s more than enough to support a Taco Bell.” Patterson Mayor Becky Campo said she’s excited the fast-food restaurant is coming. “I’m excited (first) as an individual,” Campo said. “I love Taco Bell. We go to Turlock for a Taco Bell run now and then. Then, as the mayor of the city, I’m trying to promote economic development. I’m thrilled they’re coming to town.” Olson, who has owned Taco Bell franchises for 23 years, has been working with Joe Hollowell of Sperry Commercial LLC, a company that’s developing the Patterson Plaza Shopping Center on the southwest corner of Sperry and Ward avenues. Longs Drugs, a 15,791-square-foot building, opened around Thanksgiving last year. Olson recently finished updating a Taco Bell in Oakdale featuring modern, bold colors, which will be the same style as the Patterson restaurant. “People are just loving it for a quick, full-service restaurant,” Olson said. “Corporate wants fresh looks. They want the latest and greatest things out for consumers.” Hollowell is excited about the restaurant coming to town. “This is something to celebrate,” Hollowell said. “When a new business opens in town, particularly a Taco Bell, I think it’s a big deal for our city.” To reach Maddy Houk at the Irrigator, call 892-6187 or e-mail her at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
