LOOKING OUT: Deputies stopped about 800 cars Friday and Saturday during a checkpoint at East Las Palmas and Sycamore avenues in front of New Hope Church. Police arrested one person on suspicion of drunken driving and towed 19 cars for either being unregistered or for having an unlicensed driver. Six deputies manned the checkpoints for close to four hours Friday and Saturday evenings. The checkpoints were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Deputies believe the last Patterson checkpoint happened close to 10 years ago. However, Patterson Police Services expects the local checkpoints to become a more common experience. At left, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies check drivers licenses on Friday.

I am glad to see the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Office out there making the roads safer and being proactive. With Patterson having lots of country roads, many people drive around in an unsafe manner, such as driving under the influence or without licenses/registrations. Along with the privledge of driving, also comes a lot of responsibility. Keep up the good work.

Thank You so much for making our roads safer! If only the sheriffs would do it routinely maybe every weekend since that's when there is more drunk drivers. I definitely think this is needed since I am a mother of four and they are all under eight. As a mother, I am always concerned with our safety, and I am glad they did that. Hopefully they can keep doing this more often, since they could be saving a lot of lives especially children's. Thank you and keep the good work!

i come from a small coastal party town and one thing everyone knew was don't drink and drive! you know why beacuse not only is it wrong but the police was around the corner of every bar, club, resturant, back ally,mini-mart,back road, park, and they were bustin people left and right. out of towners thought they could come and get drunk and drive around.wrong!!! us locals would laugh at them as we walked home or took local transportation all the while they were doing the d.u.i test dance.
the drunk tank on a friday night was like a club full of out of towners. check points were a daily thing,i hope stanislaus sheriffs keeps it up.
