One of Patterson’s longtime physicians, Dr. John Lanfranki, suffered a stroke Aug. 1 and had to be hospitalized. ![]() Dr. John Lanfranki “We’re in the process of closing the office, but the office will be open for patients who need to pick up their records, who need to have them transferred or for any billing questions,” office manager Afa Schimpf said. Lanfranki began his family practice in Patterson in 1954 and was fondly known to his patients as “Dr. John.” In the early days, he was available all hours of the day and night for medical needs, such as delivering babies. Later on, he had more “spare time” and put in 10-hour days. Local resident Sandy McDowell has been Lanfranki’s patient for more than 50 years and learned Thursday that the practice would close. “Dr. Lanfranki has been my sole family physician since 1955,” McDowell said. “He delivered all three of my daughters and got me through several life-threatening health issues.” Lanfranki served on many boards, both in the medical field and for community service. He received the John Darroch Memorial Physician of the Year Award in 2000 from the Stanislaus Medical Society. The award is given to a doctor with a high level of professionalism and dedication to patient care. Lanfranki was also president of the Stanislaus Medical Society, developed to promote the science and art of medicine, from 1978 to 1991. He was a member of the Patterson Lions Club for many years and served as president of the San Joaquin Stanislaus Chapter of the Easter Seal Society, among other organizations. Referrals and records Lanfranki’s patients have been advised to contact the Stanislaus Medical Society referral service at 527-1704 during regular business hours or 550-8300 after hours. Patients should also check with insurance companies for choice of another physician. Anyone who wishes to have records transferred to another doctor must sign a records release authorization. That step may be done through Lanfranki’s office, 55 N. Salado Ave., or through the office of the patient’s new physician.
