Patterson Joint Unified School District trustees will decide Monday if they’ll take a $50 million bond to voters in the November election.

If trustees approve the bond as proposed, proceeds would go to building new facilities and refurbishing old ones. Some examples of proposed projects include a new cafeteria for Creekside Middle School, a new library building at Las Palmas Elementary and modernizing Patterson High’s auditorium.

If voters approve the measure in November, they will be authorizing the district to generate the revenue for the projects by selling bonds.
The trustees will also be reviewing new fees for school meals.

According to a report from district employees to the board, increased costs have created the need for prices to be raised.

If approved, high school lunches will go from $1.50 to $2, and breakfasts will go from $1 to $1.25. Elementary schools will see lunch increase from $1.35 to $1.75 and breakfasts increase from $1 to $1.25. Middle schools lunches will increase from $1.50 to $2, and breakfasts will go from $1 to $1.25. Milk will go from $.25 to $.40.

The district estimates it will serve 290,000 meals in the next school year.
