A scholarship of action
West Side Women in Action has applications available for its 2008 scholarship. The scholarship is for women who plan to pursue any type of continuing education, vocational school, certification program or business-related courses.
Applications are evaluated on the basis of scholastic merit, community involvement, future goals, personal and career objectives and understanding of the West Side Women in Action mission statement. The applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

50-Plusers meet during summer
The Orestimba 50-Plus Club met for a potluck at its July 25 meeting at the L.J. Newman Hall, 649 Orestimba Road, in Newman.
President Kent Madenwald presided. Ellie Greer, Susie Hurst and The Newman Historical Society sent thank you cards to the group.
Lena Peters won the 50-50 prize and Ed Borba won the sign-in prize. Rosa Diaz, Virginia Amaral, Rosie Howard, Betty Servos and Regina Martin won the other prizes given.
The club is planning a Laughlin and Las Vegas trip from Oct. 27 through 30 for $173 per person. For information: call Betty Servos at 862-0787.
