Two Patterson men remain in Stanislaus County Jail this week after they were arrested early Monday on suspicion of stealing a generator and copper wire from irrigation pumps in rural Modesto. ![]() Parra ![]() Virgin Detectives caught the two men after patrol units formed a perimeter near where the men had been driving a minivan, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s spokesman Royjindar Singh said. “That area’s just been hit really hard recently with vandalism,” Singh said. Detectives were taking turns doing surveillance in the area recently when a detective spotted the minivan entering someone’s rural property at about 1:45 a.m. Monday on Paradise Road near Stone Road. A detective called for backup, and deputies formed the perimeter. Deputies pulled over the minivan when it sped off of the property, Singh said. Deputies searched the minivan and found copper wire and piping and a generator. The copper material was valued at $300 to $400, but about $10,000 worth of damage was done to two irrigation pumps and an electrical panel to get it, Singh said. The sheriff’s department thinks the two men also might have been involved in other nearby theft cases, based on past incidents in the area and the remote nature of where Monday’s theft took place. Neither Virgin nor Parra had been booked into county jail before this week, Singh said.
