Celebrate parks

EDITOR,

Hooray for parks and all the wonderful, dedicated professionals and volunteers who make them possible. Patterson is a great place to live, with much credit going to our numerous, well-located, usable and diverse parks.

We have considerably more new parks than other communities our size typically enjoy, and they provide for all the usual sports, games, picnic, family and play areas. The new pool complex is the nicest facility for many miles. In addition, besides the great regional sports park on Ward Avenue, there is a BMX track (with bleachers), and a recently remodeled, very cool dog park. Special thanks should be mentioned to city parks department Director Adrienne Chaney and her staff, and for the great off-leash dog park, thanks to Eagle Scout Travis Buehner and the tireless, selfless efforts of Marlena Cardinal and the Friends of Sophia’s Dog Park group.

Young and old people, there is plenty to do in Patterson. This week, all interested skateboarders got to meet with renowned skate park designer Wally Hollyday to help design a new skate park for Patterson. Were you there? If not, the next session is July 9.

Meanwhile, we should all be very grateful for and enjoy our wonderful Patterson parks. Thanks, parks people. You help add the “quality” to Patterson life!

Ron West, Patterson
