Virginia Williams is the new president of the local Soroptimist Club. 75 years ago — June 30, 1933 Patterson Township voters followed the trend and repealed both the national and county prohibition measures on Tuesday’s ballot. The postal rate has been cut from 3 cents to 2 cents, but only for delivery within the same city or surrounding rural area. Plans to create a local apricot pool by forming a cooperative have been dropped. Several large growers decided against participating. County supervisors have promised to proceed with construction of a bridge over the San Joaquin River east of Patterson, if plans are practicable. Southern Pacific has cut its passenger service rate from 2.6 to 2 cents a mile. The McConnell Market is this week selling a 15-ounce can of tomato juice for 5 cents.
