25 years ago — June 23, 1983
The City Council is expected to approve a budget for 1983-84 of a little more than $1.45 million.

Kay Corwin has again been named chairwoman of the Patterson Planning Commission. Recognition was given to recent Patterson High School graduate Albert Anderson, who served as junior commissioner this past year.

An average of 13 patients a day enabled Del Puerto Hospital to operate in the black during the month of May.

The City Council this week went on record as opposing expansion of the rough-terrain area at Frank Raines Park from 640 acres to about 6,000 acres, as is being promoted by a group of four-wheel-drive and motorcycle enthusiasts.

50 years ago — June 19, 1958
The high school district’s budget for the 1958-59 year is about $5,300 higher than last year’s $235,000 budget.

Watsonville native Warren Cottrell is the new manager of the Patterson office of American Trust Co. He comes here from Greenfield.

The L Co. reserve unit from Patterson will soon be off to Camp Roberts for two weeks of military training.

Those to see duty are Manuel Alberta, James Barnard, Anthony Borba, Clark Delphia, Warren Fink, Charles Leach, David Leaf, Virgil Periera, Jerry Porter, Domingos Silva, James Watson, Robert Thomas and Donald Harper.

P.H. Filbin of Manteca has purchased 2,400 acres of Hamilton family range land in the hills west of Westley, while James Alderson of Anaheim has purchased 160 acres of irrigated land in the Vernalis area, which will be farmed by son Thomas Alderson.

Glenn Hamilton turned back Gene Wheeland for the top honor in the Patterson Golf Club a second consecutive year.

75 years ago — June 23, 1933
Service at the Patterson Post Office will be trimmed July 1 when the office’s rating drops from second to third class. The reason for the drop was last year’s decrease in revenue.

A diesel locomotive stalled in Patterson Tuesday afternoon and needed 100 gallons of fuel from local dealer Lyle Johnson to head on to Los Banos.

Charley Gervasoni will be the new 20-30 Club president.

The possibility exists that a federal labor camp housing 50 men will be established in Del Puerto Canyon to work on the road link with Santa Clara County.

Seventeen Boy Scouts and their leader hiked up Mt. Oso on Saturday.
