Input sought in skate park development
While Patterson’s soccer, football and basketball players may use local community centers or recreational parks for practices, skaters say they are without an adequate facility. As a result, they often take their boards to the streets or to busy shopping center parking lots.

A decision by the City Council to spend $15,000 to hire a skate park designer is the first step to changing that. And local skaters are invited to help develop what will eventually be their place to play.

On two Wednesdays, June 25 and July 9, local young people and interested community members can meet with designer Wally Hollyday, the man chosen to facilitate and design Patterson’s first skate park.

Hollyday will guide participants through an input session to review a variety of design ideas and possible components of the skate park. Existing samples of similar skate parks will be displayed as visual references.

Meetings will be at City Hall from 3 to 5 p.m.

Teen night at the pool
Patterson Aquatic Center will host an after-hours pool party for teens this weekend, with music, snacks and a few rule changes for the evening.

On Saturday, the center will host Teen Night, an evening open exclusively to students in eighth through 12th grades.

A valid student ID card is required for admission.

The pool is open from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

For information: 895-8080.
