25 years ago — June 16, 1983
Video World, Patterson’s newest business, will open this weekend, owner Michael “Mick” Logan has announced.

Patterson High graduate JoAnne Stewart, who started with the school district in 1970 as a teacher, is the new principal of Northmead School.

The Harney School, up in the San Antonio Valley in Santa Clara County, graduated one senior this spring, Denise Roessler. Melinda Davidson has been the loan teacher at the kindergarten-through-12th-grade school the past two years. She handed out three eighth-grade certificates to Kris Buell, Dana Roessler and Jill Stoddard. County Superintendent of Schools John Allard was the guest speaker at the ceremony at Frank Raines Regional Park.

The Patterson Tigres banged out 27 hits and beat E.J. Gallo, 26-6, in Mexican-American Baseball League play.

Dr. Peter La Torre is the newly elected president of the Patterson Lions Club.

50 years ago — June 12, 1958
A study is under way to determine whether Patterson qualifies to receive door-to-door mail delivery.

The city has applied for more than $2,000 in federal flood disaster relief aid. The money would pay for sand and bags, as well as street cleaning.

Teoman Turksoy, an American Field Service student from Turkey, will live with the Al Loumena family for the coming school year.

Walter Frank is the incoming president of the Lions Club.

The Chamber of Commerce will meet with the county administrator and Supervisor Jim Franzen to discuss rumors about moving the county work camp or jail facility from Del Puerto Canyon. The chamber opposes such a move.

75 years ago — June 16, 1933
Plans are being discussed to change the private fire protection district serving the West Side into a rural tax district.

Representatives from Stanislaus and Santa Clara counties will meet Tuesday in San Jose to discuss the proposed highway from that area over Mt. Hamilton to Patterson. County supervisors and local Chamber of Commerce officials, including William Logan, who chairs the project for Patterson, will gather for a lamb barbecue lunch at the Lick Observatory atop the mountain.

Top golfers Harry Van Buskirk and Doug McElhern squared off for the Patterson Golf Club title, with Buskirk posting a 2-up victory while shooting a 77.

New Goodyear tires are advertised this week as low as $6.40 at Glen Hendy’s Chevrolet agency.
