The Patterson Pirates battled back from a two-run ninth inning deficit Sunday, only to fall just short of the visiting Stockton Astros, 6-5.

The Pirates’ Rafa Arroyo belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, knotting the score at 5-5 and sending the game into extra innings.

But Patterson was unable to fend off the Astros in the extra session, allowing the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th.

The loss drops the Pirates’ record to 2-3 in their inaugural season in the Cal-Mex Baseball League.
