“We’re in it for tomorrow. We’ve built this business to be here a long time.” — John Bragdon Co-owner, Patterson Family Pharmacy The relocation of a drug store in downtown Patterson will bring medicine back to the center of the city. A sign announcing Patterson Family Pharmacy’s plans to relocate went up in downtown a few weeks ago. The pharmacy will set up shop at 47 South Del Puerto Ave., where a Long’s Drug Store once stood. “I’ve always known that that’s where the pharmacy is,” said Tom Bragdon, who co-owns a pharmacy at 1108 Ward Ave. with John Wong. The two are waiting for the state to OK the paperwork before they can open the new location. They hope to be in the building before August. Wong and Bragdon said their customers seem excited by the move. “Everyone else in town was like ‘You need to move over, you need to move over,’” Wong said. “We’ve had offers to help (us move.)” ![]() Coming soon: A banner announces the plan for Patterson Family Pharmacy to relocate at the South Del Puerto Avenue location where Longs Drug Store had been. Photo by Carol Scoles/Patterson Irrigator The owner of the building on South Del Puerto, Andy Barsamian, ran Patterson Pharmacy in downtown from 1958 to 2003, when he let Longs lease the location. He said that another pharmacy had been in downtown when he opened his doors, meaning a downtown pharmacy had been around for at least 50 years. Both Bragdon and Wong have a connection to that old Patterson pharmacy, Barsamian said — he has employed both of them in the past. “I’ve signed checks for both of them.” A major reason for the move is additional space, Wong and Bragdon said. The larger location means more variety at the store, they said. Their current pharmacy is in the midst of several other recently constructed medical buildings, including Patterson’s urgent care facility. The duo said being in a developing medical complex has been nice, but the chance to expand could not be passed up. “We’re not in it for today, Bragdon said. “We’re in it for tomorrow. We’ve built this business to be here a long time.” To reach John Saiz at the Irrigator, call 892-6187 or e-mail him at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
