The elusive treasure in this year's Patterson Apricot Fiesta hunt has been claimed. Patterson resident Steven Reyes has claimed the prize after spending most of this afternoon searching by bicycle. The clues, which led him to the booty, have appeared in each issue of the Patterson Irrigator since May 3, 2008. Treasure hunters were finding it increasingly difficult to locate the clues in each issue, as they never appeared in the same place twice. Mr. Reyes will receive the cash prize of $200 from Fiesta secretary Marilyn Hoobler, for his excellent sleuthing skills. For those of you who are wondering........here's what the clues meant: Clues 1 & 2: These were meant to simply draw your attention to the downtown area. Clues 3-7: These clues were to point to the particular area within the downtown. Remember the "American symbol"? Those of you who did research or have lived in town for more than 20 years will remember the Eagle drug store was housed in what is now Oak Valley Community Bank. We also wanted you to rest under the awnings (y-awning) you would find if you were looking in the general vicinity of the bank. Notice 4 of the following: awnings, windows, slots in the sidewalk, etc. The last clue referred to the vessel holding the instructions for claiming the treasure. It was a hollow, hide-a-rock, commonly used to keep a spare house key for those times when you may have locked yourself out. Congratulations Steven! To all this years hunters, a big thank you for your interest and enthusiasm. This is as much fun for us as it is for you. See you next year.
