KUDOS FFA students bring home numerous awards Carter, Traina take 1st in bridge tourney BIRTHS Reagan Elise Green, Alexia Trejo Magana, Chevelle Marie Villanueva KUDOS FFA students bring home numerous awards Patterson High School agriculture students came away with many awards and scholarships at the Patterson FFA Chapter Banquet May 14 at the high school. Kim Frutos received the Greenhand Degree, an award for an outstanding first-year FFA member who has excelled in agriculture education, in a supervised agriculture experience project and in the classroom. Joseph Melo earned the Chapter Farmer Award, the highest award a chapter degree holder can get. The award is given to the FFA member who has a strong supervised agriculture experience program and is one of the most actively involved members in the Patterson FFA. Melo has worked more than 45 hours on his project and earned more than $150 on his project in the past year. Evan Bachelder received the Blue and Gold Award, an award presented to a student who has excelled in the FFA program all four years of high school. Teresa Azevedo received the Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment award. The Dekalb Award is given to a senior in the ag program who exhibit excellence in the FFA leadership community and in school development and have an extensive supervised agricultural project. Other awards: Isaac Carter: Outstanding agriculture freshman Kristina Alaniz: Outstanding agriculture sophomore Jeff Wilson: Outstanding agriculture junior Teresa Azevedo: Outstanding agriculture senior Appreciation Awards: Yosemite Farm Credit, Lions Club, Brenda and Jim Melo, Michele and Ken Bays, Debbie and John Azevedo, George Klopping, Dave Santos and Pat Alves. Honorary FFA Degree: Elana Davidson Point Awards were given to the top 16 students in the FFA chapter. Points are given based on school activities, money raised for the chapter and student agriculture projects. Point Award winners are Isaac Carter, Jackie Taylor, Kim Frutos, Joseph Melo, Kristina Alaniz, Cecilia Martinez, Ryan Bizzanelli, Lauren Schryver, Rachel Weaver, Josh Ham, Muriel Griffith, Jacob Nelson, Danielle Ramirez, Claudia Moran, Brian Gutierrez and Veronica Silva Agriculture Education Awards were presented to Evan Bachelder, Kim Frutos, Joe Melo and Evan Dias. Agriculture Education Awards are given to students who show an interest in becoming an agriculture educator in the future. The winners have been identified by their agriculture teachers for having strong energy, leadership, maturity and integrity. Michael Fantozzi received the Gustasfon Scholarship, while Evan Bachelder, Rachel Weaver and Ryan Lynch received the Patterson FFA Scholarships. Senior Program Completors include Teresa Azevedo, Waylon Berrios, Evan Bachelder, Alma Calderon, Anthony Bacerra, Ethan Dias, Michael Fantozzi, Ernesto Gonzalez, Jillian Goubert, Josh Ham, Kaelee Kramer, Will Gilbert, Larry Navarro, Stefanie Paschal, Sandra Pemental, Diana Riveria, Ryan Lynch and Rachel Weaver. Mr. FFA Award was given to Larry Navarro and Miss FFA Award was given to Kaelee Kramer. BIRTHS Reagan Elise Green was welcomed by her parents, Tracy and Brandon Green of Patterson, on May 5, 2008. She weighed 6 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 20½ inches long when she was born at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Her big sister is Finley, 3. Grandparents are Paul and Diane Moore of Crowley, Texas, and Terry and Sharon Green of Granbury, Texas. Alexia Trejo Magana is the new daughter of Myda Magana and Jose Trejo of Westley. Alexia was born March 12, 2008, at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, where she weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long. Her grandparents are Miroslava Hernandez of Patterson and Jose and Teresa Trejo of Westley. Her great-grandparents are Jose Hernandez and Tomas Lopez, both of Patterson, and Juana Hernandez of Westley. Chevelle Marie Villanueva is the new daughter of Tiffany Montez and Luis Villanueva of Patterson. She was born April 7, 2008, at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, weighing 6 pounds, 11.7 ounces and measuring 19½ inches long. Chevelle’s grandparents are Elenor Villanueva of Newman and the late Catherine Alexander. Her great-grandparents are Julia Perez and Alexander Silva, both of Patterson, and the late Alfredo Perez.
