Top Tigers receive awards at spring banquet Tiger coaches awarded their top athletes Monday at the annual spring sports banquet in the Patterson High gymnasium. The banquet — which featured a number of competitors from the PHS baseball, softball, boys golf, tennis, girls soccer, swim and track teams — honored the best male and female athletes from each sport. The event also acknowledged a variety of other individual accolades, noting achievements in leadership, team spirit and overall improvement. ![]() Jack Relva of the boys track team is given one of two team Coach's Award during the Monday spring sports banquet. Elias Funez / Patterson Irrigator Baseball Patterson senior Waylon Berrios was elected the Most Valuable Player, while teammate Keith Yamamoto earned Outstanding Offensive Player honors. Both Berrios and Yamamoto were voted team co-captains. The Outstanding Defensive Player of the year award went to Josh Mendoza, while fellow senior Daniel Kifle earned the title of the team’s Most Improved Player. Softball Kianna Weinzheimer took home Outstanding Offensive Player honors. The team’s Outstanding Defensive Player award went to teammate Jessyca Rico. Kaelee Kramer earned the Tiger Pride Award, while Rachel Weaver came away with the Coach’s Award. Golf The Most Valuable Player award went to Oscar Park. Teammates Ryan DeForest and Scott Trinta were elected as the team’s co-captains, while the Tiger Pride Award was shared by Jonathan Jordan and Robert Krager. Preston Plaugher was selected as the team’s Most Promising Golfer. Tennis David Salazar and Paola Hernandez each earned an MVP nod as well. Teammates Ashley Metzger and Cecilia Ou were elected co-captains, and Ou also earned the squad’s Tiger Pride Award. Javier Lagarde was selected as the Tigers’ Most Improved Payer. Girls soccer The team voted senior Jessica Herrera its Most Valuable Player. Teammates Adriana Araisa and Michelle Topete were selected as the Outstanding Offensive and Defensive players, respectively. Herrera and Araisa also earned co-captain honors, while Teresa Azevedo came away with the Tiger Pride award. Swimming The swim team’s High Point Awards went to Kyle VanRiper and Andi Coble. Klemme and Kelly Nelson were named team co-captains, while teammates Richard Carney and Rachel Martinez were voted as the team’s Most Improved Athletes. Patterson’s Daniel Mejia and Raquel DonBatalla each took home the Tiger Pride Award. A special acknowledgement to Don Sonnefeld — named Most Valuable Parent — was also handed down by the swim team. Boys track Ronyea Ellington was elected the Most Valuable Player of the team. Josh Ham, Robby Samano and Brian Serpa shared tri-captain honors, while Ham also collected the team’s Tiger Pride Award. Coach’s Awards went to Jack Relva, Carlos Aranda and Nelson Vasquez. Girls track Senior Rebecca Freres was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player. Teammate Krista Loughman joined Freres as a co-captain. Amanda Moreno earned the Tiger Pride Award, and the Coach’s Award was shared between Amber Bond and Jessica Ladd. Junior Varsity Baseball The JV baseball squad selected both Nathaniel Mayoral and Cesar Gomez as its co-captains. Teammates Andrew Sciaky and Caleb Martinez were voted the team’s Outstanding Offensive and Defensive Players respectively. Softball The team named Melissa Robles its Most Valuable Player. Teammates Desiree Esparza and Stephanie Barra were selected as the team’s co-captains, while Marissa Chavez took home Most Improved Player honors. Girls soccer The team awarded Andrea Arellano its Outstanding Offensive Player Award, while Yosselin Alvarado came away with the Outstanding Defensive Player award. Track Patterson’s Ramone Ellington earned the JV track team’s Most Valuable Player nod. Thomas Dodd, Shaun Jackson and Juan Dominguez achieved tri-captain status, while Albert Lazcano came away with the Tiger Pride award. Raphael Martinez captured the Coach’s Award.
