A 50-year-old Sacramento man died following a vehicle accident involving three big rigs on Interstate 5 south of Ingram Creek Road on Tuesday night. Police did not release the name of the deceased man as of Thursday. While traveling south at about 11:20 p.m., the man’s truck struck the trailer of a disabled big rig that had been pulled over on the right-hand shoulder, according to California Highway Patrol reports. The crash caused the man to lose control and strike another big rig that had also been pulled over on the right-hand shoulder. All three vehicles caught fire, and flames spread to the surrounding grass. The man died from injuries sustained in the crash, according to CHP. The grass fire did not spread very far. Li Ci Li, 49, of Oakland, was driving the first big rig to be hit. Her rig had experienced mechanical problems at about 10:39 p.m., and she had pulled over to the right shoulder. Her trailer was partially in the roadway, CHP said. She called another commercial driver, Andy Quach, 35, of San Leandro, who parked his rig in front of hers. He then sat with her in her cab as they discussed their options. For unknown reasons, the man could not avoid Li’s trailer. Li and Quach did not report any injuries.
