I’m proud of all of them.” — Cade Tomasegovich PHS girls varsity soccer coach The Patterson High girls soccer team had one final chance to even the score in the waning minutes of Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Western Athletic Conference rival Hilmar. But senior Jeanette Ortega’s shot sailed just wide of the goal, sealing the win for the visiting Yellowjackets. “This was a very competitive game,” Patterson coach Cade Tomasegovich said. “I don’t feel that we were dominated. It was a back-and-forth contest where they just managed to put one more in than we did.” Despite the loss, the Tigers wrapped up their best season in years, finishing 8-4-3 in league. “I’m holding my head up high about this season,” Tomasegovich said. “This team did pretty much everything that I asked from them. Photo by Elias Funez/Patterson Irrigator Tuesday’s game also marks the end of a career for a handful of Patterson seniors. “I’ve known some of these girls since junior high,” Tomasegovich said. “It’s going to be sad to see some of them go. I really do wish for bigger and better things for them, because they deserve it.” Still, more than a few Tigers starters will return for another run at the playoffs. “I’m looking forward to the girls that we have coming up next year,” the first-year coach said. “Our JV team had an awesome season, and I’m ready to dish out some losses to some teams next year.” With WAC powerhouse teams like Hilmar and Central Catholic losing several key players to graduation, the future looks bright for the Tigers’ program. “We will be right in the thick of things again next season,” Tomasegovich said. “We’ll try to get ourselves into those playoffs.” To reach Marc Aceves at the Irrigator, call 892-6187 or e-mail him at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
