25 years ago — Aug. 26, 1982
Keith Daniel, the new superintendent of the Patterson Unified School District, expects this next school year’s enrollment to number just less than 2,000 students.
Ed Filbin is requesting the rezoning of 40 acres in the hills west of Westley so he can build a tire-shredding operation to process an estimated 12 million tires he has at the site.

50 years ago — Aug. 22, 1957
A 17-year-old AFS student from Greece who was scheduled to live with the Donald Crooker family while attending Patterson High School this coming school year died in New York while on his way to Patterson. He was stricken with Asiatic flu, later complicated by pneumonia, while crossing the Atlantic by ship.

Patterson Produce Co. Manager Brice Draper has reported the theft of 39 sacks of white onions from a sealed freight car.

75 years ago — Aug. 26, 1932
The Southern Pacific Co. is offering a cent-a-mile rate for passengers traveling in early September.
The Toggery in Patterson is advertising leather sport coats from $4.75 and $6.50, while school dresses for girls ages 6 to 14 are only 50 cents at Patterson Department Store.
