Three men stabbed at Sunday party Print E-mail

Three Patterson men were hospitalized after a stabbing at a party early Sunday morning.

Deputies responded at about 2 a.m. to reports of a fight at a home on the 600 block of Yancey Court. While they were en route, more calls came in that there had been multiple stabbings.

When police arrived, they found three men with stab wounds, a 25-year-old, a 31-year-old and a 34-year-old. Helicopters took two men to hospitals, and the other was transported via ambulance. Detective Dave Hickman said one of the men was slipping in and out of consciousness when emergency responders arrived.

Police think an argument between several partygoers led up to the stabbing.

One of the men underwent surgery over the weekend. The other two were released from the hospital Sunday, Hickman said.

Between 30 and 45 people had gathered at the Yancey Court home to celebrate a birthday, according to Detective Michael Fisher. The detectives said that, according to witnesses, a fight started when someone tried to identify an unknown party guest.

A verbal argument ensued inside the house, and the participants stepped outside, where the men were stabbed.

Police have a suspect and have issued a warrant, though they would not release the person’s name. They also declined to say whether the person who stabbed the men acted alone.

If a suspect is arrested, police will seek attempted murder charges, said Patterson Sgt. Joe Camarda.

Police do not think the attack was gang-related, Hickman said.

What a terrible incident to happen to 3 productive hard working individuals and their families. Our beliefs of safety are traumatized, and we are left with feelings of fear and confusion thinking, “Things like this don’t happen to us.”
