Proposed rules that will regulate Patterson land under the Williamson Act will be reviewed Thursday by Patterson Planning Commission. The Land Conservation Act of 1965, known as the Williamson Act, established rules for conserving agricultural land. When a city annexes land that is covered by the act, it becomes the city’s responsibility to administer the act’s provisions. In an effort to streamline those procedures, city planners have proposed rules that are more specific to Patterson and that would establish a checklist for administering the act. Planners hope the rules will “ensure that contracts will be dealt with equitably and expeditiously, and no procedural steps are missed,” according to a report to the commission. State law would still take precedence over the local ordinances, so the rules must comply with the established Williamson Act. The planning commission will also review a permit for a child care center at 145 Abelia Lane. The six-month review is part of the center’s conditional use permit.
