Fill your mind with the truth

Rev. Glen Morden
Embracing the unknown and unexplainable through faith is not a sign of ignorance, but is rather the only logical response to the overwhelming complexities this world and universe have to offer. God’s personality and work, as revealed in nature and Word (the Bible), cannot be quantified or explained in its fullness on this side of eternity.

Belief in God is grounded in ancient truth; theory, however, is grounded in contemporary guess. “The big bang theory,” “evolution theory” and “abiogenesis,” regardless of how vehemently and articulately defended, will always be conjecture and subject to change. However, the revealed truth of God will never change and will remain absolute for all time.

Those of faith must guard our minds, and our children’s minds, from adopting whole-heartedly such erosive theories. We must be aware of them but never accept them as absolutes. Lastly, we should never be put to shame for believing in an Almighty God who created (and also sustains) the heavens and the earth for his glory.

In the Bible it is written, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see …  By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible” (Hebrews 11:1-3).

Also it is written, “For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).
