Patterson’s two newest dentists are husband-and-wife Ricky and Harpreet Brar, who have set up Patterson Family Dental, 1045 Sperry Ave., in the Patterson Marketplace shopping center near California Beauty Supply.

The Brars, who live in Tracy, opened the new office March 28. The couple provides complete family dentistry including root canals, crowns, white fillings, veneers and cosmetic dentistry. The couple graduated from Ceres High School and University of the Pacific San Francisco School of Dentistry.
They said they use noxious oxide and digital X-rays that have 90 percent less radiation than film X-rays. The new office has a special chair for kids, mounted monitors and television screens ready for interactive visits with inquisitive clients.

“Any question a patient has, we have a video for it,” Brar said.

The couple, who waited two years to open an office in town, take patients of all ages.

“We’re a husband-and-wife team — not a corporation,” Brar said. “That’s why we call it Patterson Family Dental.”

Ricky is in Patterson on Tuesdays, and Harpreet is in town Wednesdays through Fridays. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all four days, and Saturdays by appointment only. They also have an office in Modesto.

A treasure trove of goods
Forgotten Treasures Thrift Store, owned by Jennifer and Jack Reese, opened April 14 at 216 I St., Ste. D.
The family-owned store stocks men’s, women’s and children’s and baby clothing ranging in price from $2 to $10. There are household items, picture frames and some furniture sold at the store as well.
Jennifer had wanted to open Forgotten Treasures for the past four or five years. Jack is also on hand to put furniture together.

The Reeses aim to keep everything at the shop spic and span. They accept donations of items in perfect condition.

“People have been saying how nice everything is,” Jennifer said. “I’m picky about the clothing. If it’s something I don’t think I can sell in the store, I put it outside in a box.”

The Reeses also plan to give back to the community. They want to start sponsoring such events as the Patterson Recreation Department’s Movie Nights and Patterson Teen Center projects.

“We’ve got all kinds of ideas,” Jennifer said.

Forgotten Treasures is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays; and from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on alternate Saturdays.

Enjoy some barbecue

Nik’s BBQ became the newest restaurant in Villa del Lago’s plaza center April 7.

Patterson resident Sun Choe and Spencer Vierra of the Bay Area invite folks to dine in or take their grub home.

Employees, family members and friends have all pitched in, and the restaurant seats 12 to 15 people.
Sun, who has lived in Patterson two years, worked in the corporate world before she was laid off, and she was ready for a change.

“When I moved here, I wanted to do something different,” Sun said. “I missed the food in the Bay Area. I wanted a different restaurant. I wanted barbecue — it fits the community.”

The Nik’s menu consists of barbecued tri-tip, chicken, hot links, hot dogs and salads. There are also family bucket meals or dinner specials to choose from. Hawaiian barbecue dishes with rice and salad are available Saturdays and Sundays.

“We welcome everyone to stop by and try the food,” Sun said. “I want to reach out to the community.
“I’ve had a lot of good feedback from people — they love the sauce. They come back and just want to eat the sauce.”

Nik’s BBQ, 2985 Renzo Lane, Ste. C, is open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and for dinner from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The restaurant is also open from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday and is closed Monday.
