Born again in a faith of action

What is a Christian? Ask this question, and you will get all kinds of answers.

Someone told me once that they were a born-again Christian. I asked, “Is there any other kind?”

According to John 3, to enter into the kingdom of God you must be born again. So, unless you are born again in the spirit, how can you be a Christian?

What does the Bible say a Christian is? In Acts 11:26, 26:28, and 1 Peter 4:16, it’s the Greek word xpioriavos, which means belonging to Christ. He owns you — you are his slave.

In Galatians 6:17, Paul says, “I bear my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.” Marks is the Greek word stigma, which is the mark of a slave. How many of us have that type of commitment to Christ?

Ever read Matt 10:32-39? To be a Christian and be born again, we must have the Holy Spirit in us. How do we receive the spirit? We receive it by faith in Jesus Christ as being the Son of God and that he died for our sins and rose after three days.

The Greek word for faith is pistis. It’s not just a head faith, but an action faith, trusting that God will do what he says. He put all his promises in Christ.

To make my point further, the words believe, belief, believed in the King James Bible are the Greek words pisteus, pistis and pistos. In Acts 5:14, it refers to a Christian pisteuo (a father).

A Christian faith is in action, not just the mind. We say as Christians we are to be like Jesus. Romans 3:22 says we are saved by the faith of Jesus. Jesus had faith that his father would raise him up. We are to be like Jesus and trust in the Father, and he will raise us up.

You can’t be like Jesus in his perfect life, but you can be in his faith. He kept the perfect life for us (the law) then cursed it and nailed it to the cross. It can’t stand in our way anymore. Rejoice that we now can stand before God in Christ’s work, not ours.

Start trusting in God through Jesus and receive the spirit that will raise you up. Be born again.
