City starts fresh on general plan revisions Print E-mail

City officials are taking a fresh look at the process to revise the city’s general plan.

On Thursday, the Genral Plan Advisory Committee reconvened for the first time in more than six months and heard planning consultant Dave Moran discuss the basics of what a general plan entails. When revisions are complete, Patterson City Council hopes to have a document that answers questions such as how many people should live in the city and where development should occur.

This is the second time the advisory committee has gotten its hands on the general plan. Last time, it suggested a density that would lead to a population of close to 154,000 people by 2048 and said the city should expand by thousands of acres.

At that time, several of the advisers said they had felt rushed and were not clear of all the impacts their decisions would have. Now, the committee is taking the time to cover the basics and will likely start from scratch.

The advisory committee expects to hold two-hour bimonthly meetings until November. At that time, the city Planning Commission will review the plan and then send it to the council, which will have final say on the matter. Originally, the council had hoped to complete the entire plan by November.

The committee expects to meet again April 29 at 6 p.m. at Patterson City Hall, 1 Plaza, where it will continue to review what makes a general plan and what is in the current general plan.
