Bikes, strollers will be on parade
Parents and children are invited to celebrate spring  with the Patterson Mamas and Me Bike and Stroller Parade at 11 a.m. April 12 on the downtown Patterson Circle.

Children can decorate their bikes and trikes with streamers, horns and whatever else they like.

Strollers should be decorated, too.

The group will meet at 11 a.m. at Las Palmas Elementary School, 624 W. Las Palmas Ave., to ride en masse to the circle and end up at North Park.

Participants are asked to call ahead for information and reservations.

Kleveno is new worshipful master
Alvin Kleveno became worshipful master when the Patterson Masonic Lodge No. 488 F. & A.M. installed officers at 2 p.m. Jan. 19. 

Other officers are William Beall, senior warden; Stephen Bruce, P.M., junior warden; Ron Lawrence, P.M., treasurer; Ray Murphy, P.M., secretary; Robert Kimball, P.M., chaplain; Christopher Dennis, senior deacon; Glen Saunders Jr., junior deacon; Kevin Nelson, P.M., marshal; John Wong, senior steward, Steven Faries, junior steward; and Robert Reed, tiler. Inspector 589th District is Tom Bathe.
Nelson is past worshipful master of the local lodge.

La Torre elected sorority president
Preceptor Xi Phi sorority met March 4 at the home of Sara Smith, with 12 members present.

The following 2008-09 officers were elected: Vicki La Torre, president; Roberta Petty, vice president; Coleen Sanguinetti, recording secretary; Carolyn English, treasurer; and Betty Carlson, corresponding secretary.

The sorority gave money to the city of Patterson’s Beautification Committee. Preceptor Xi Phi also donated money for the Patterson Recognizing Individuals Determined to Excel dinner and auction, planned for May 3 at Best Western Villa Del Lago Inn, and will decorate the room where the dinner will take place.

Carlson reported that a January monetary donation was given to the Westside Food Pantry.

Preceptor Xi Phi will host An Evening of Wine and Cheese in conjunction with the Patterson Apricot Fiesta and Miss Patterson pageant, with the date to be announced later.

Joel Covolo and Sanguinetti presented the cultural program about St. Patrick’s Day.

Founders Day for Beta Sigma Phi, of which the local sorority is a part, will be celebrated April 30 at the home of Lois and Carolyn English.

Women’s group seeks volunteers
Westside Women in Action, a group that works to inspire, promote and educate local professional women in business, seeks board members. 

The group also needs committee members for its annual Women’s Business Conference Oct. 3 at the Diablo Grande Clubhouse. The conference helps women build leadership skills, develop networking opportunities and expand successful businesses. It also features workshops, vendor booths, a luncheon and a guest speaker.
