25 years ago — March 10, 1983 Patterson is about to receive its first automatic banking machine. Wells Fargo Bank is installing the outdoor service. A levee break along the San Joaquin River north of Grayson forced the quick evacuation of four families, including Ed Hagemann’s, whose property was quickly flooded. More than 1,500 acres were soon under water. Patterson High seniors Anthony Amaro and Kevin Ward have been selected to receive the top Bank of America awards in the areas of science and mathematics and liberal arts, respectively. Diana Agundez has graduated from a cryptology technician training program in the U.S. Navy. Patterson High junior Nancy Silva was named to the All-League basketball team, while sophomores L.E. Osteen and Sally Gill received second-team honors. 50 years ago — March 6, 1958 Sacred Heart Catholic Church has purchased 9.25 acres on M Street from Rolph Oster and plans to construct a parochial school. The purchase price was $25,000. Clarence Selander and Homer Brewer will co-chair the upcoming second annual Town and Country Days for the Patterson Lions Club. Margaret Lyons and Rebeccah Stewart, respectively, have won the Patterson and Crows Landing Lions Club student speaker contests. The local Archery Club is now meeting in the old gym at Patterson High on Thursday evenings. 75 years ago — March 10, 1933 The Patterson Boy Scout troop has earned the President Hoover ribbon for its activities and growth this past year. Stanley and Stewart Cox earned their First Class badges at a Court of Honor early this week. Patterson’s two banks received $6,000 in emergency cash this week, much of which will cover Libby, McNeill and Libby Co. paychecks. The money was released on federal orders to permit normal trade. Checks issued after March 4 will be held until further government action is taken. Other than a shortage of coins and small bills, local merchants are experiencing no problems. Jinx Nite, an annual activity of Patterson High School students, has been postponed because of the present financial uncertainty. The event raises money for the school.
