The race
A little more than a week ago, Patterson was privileged to have the Amgen Tour of California race through town. Without a doubt, this event brought international attention to Patterson. The excitement and anticipation was absolutely phenomenal. Watching the cyclists pass by with all their entourage was so amazing. It was the first time I had experienced something like that.

Writing on the experience, one can only imagine how much expense must go into participating in a race such as this. Probably tens of thousands of dollars are spent — an investment. So why wouldn’t the racers want to win?

Could it be some cyclists raced for advertisement? I don’t know. But one thing I do know: Being in a race, I would hope that one’s intent would be to win.

The Bible tells us that, as children of God, we are in a race not for show, nor for money, but for a crown of life. Just as these cyclists experience winding roads and uphill climbs, we experience the same, but we keep racing. Sometimes, there are bumps in the road, but we keep racing.

Jesus says in the Bible: “Where your treasure is, there shall your heart be.”

May I ask you today, “Where is your treasure?”

I know my treasure is God, heaven is the prize and I must win the prize.

For this is an eternal race.
