25 years ago — Feb. 24, 1983
Pat Wells has been named manager of the Westside Bank’s new Patterson branch, which will open March 15.
Four Patterson High band members have been selected to perform at the county’s Secondary Music Festival. They are Erich Karp, Ben Wright, Albert Anderson and Durwood Hicks.
Alice Lomeli is the Daughters of the American Revolution good citizenship award recipient. Her essay about patriotism won her the area award. Lomeli also serves as student body president at PHS.

50 years ago — Feb. 20, 1958
Patterson’s new federal low-rent housing project on the east side of the city was dedicated Sunday in a ceremony that included Jack Melville of the San Francisco office of the Public Housing Administration and Walter Thompson of the Stanislaus County Housing Authority.
Joe Pires is president of the local FFA chapter, which is beginning its 30th year.
Patterson received 2.24 inches of rainfall from Tuesday to Wednesday morning, the most recorded in a 24-hour period since 1937. Water completely surrounded Rising Sun School, causing classes to be canceled until the level goes down.
The high school Drama Workshop will present three one-act plays. Included in the casts are Donna Marie Olson, Marilyn Johnson, Mary Bessey, Kenny Stark, Coy Roberts, Laurie Morgan, Bill Kelsay, Joan Heitman and Beth Ayres.

75 years ago – Feb. 24, 1933
Directors of the Patterson Water Co. cut wages up to 25 percent and dropped the water rate to $5.50 for 2 acre feet when they had their annual meeting.
The Patterson Golf Club has temporarily eliminated its initiation fee of $25 in an attempt to attract new members. New members will be considered associates and will pay a monthly fee of $1.50.
Local Boy Scouts and their leader, C.T. Jennings, took their annual snow trip to Long Barn on Saturday and Sunday. One mishap — Robert Moe spilled from a toboggan and broke his collar bone — marred the outing.
More than 600 fans turned out Friday night to watch the Patterson High boys slip past Newman, 35-32, in a playoff game for the league title. Stanley Ghisletta pumped in 18 points to lead all scorers. It was the team’s sixth pennant in the past 11 years.
